Every woman should know this; Every Man is a potential rapist until he passes this test

Please Permit me to say that this article has been written strictly based on the Nigerian community which I am over familiar with. However, few of the things I would be talking about might not apply to other countries but most African countries which shares similar cultural believes with Nigeria should have same experiences too.

It is very sad to think that rape has become the new normal in our society today. While the number of children, young ladies, mother's and even aged women who are being raped in a daily basis increases, it is hard to say fully why people engage in such babaric act.

NIGERIA has experienced a series of rape activities that has affected lives of the victims and their families lately. This series of rape cases have exposed how we have neglected the acts which protects a girl child from being raped and how those dangerous rapists everywhere think they could do whatever they want and get away with it.

A series of hashtags on Twitter has been raised in the past week to help find justice for some raped victims in nigeria who either lost their lives or are left in some life-threatening conditions.

These are some of the hashtags on Twitter;

#JusticeForUwa

#JusticeForTina

#justiceforjennifer

#justiceforelizabeth

#JusticeforAda

#JusticeForBarakat and many more others.

Everyone knows late Vera Uwaila Omozuwa’s story. She was the 21 years old promising university student whose life was cut short by rapists. She was raped, beaten and brutally wounded in a church and left for death.

The most recent one is Barakat Bello who until her death was 18 years old, 100 level Student of federal college of Animal health and production (FCAHPT) in Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria. She was attacked at her own house while nobody was at home. She was found dead in a pool of her own blood after being raped.

Rape; is a type of s-xual assault usually involving s-xual activity or other forms of s-xual penetration carried out against a person.

Rape; this is an act of s-xual activity with an individual without his or her consent, through force or the threat of force. Usually, the violence attached is the reason most of the victims obliges.

Why men rape;

There are many different theories explaining the Causes of s-xual violence. It may include any of the these;

1. Militaryconquest

2. Socioeconomics

3. Anger

4. Power

5. Sadism

6. Traits

7. Ethical Standards

8. laws

9. Evolutionary Pressures

All these have led to why people commit acts like rape, molestation,s-xual harassment,stalking, and incest.

Rape; was long considered to be caused by unbridled s-xual desire, but it is now understood as a pathological assertion of power over a victim.

According to a Nigerian settings, these are some sceneries that proves all men are rapists:

1. In our Universities today, it is no longer news that a lecturer sees a lady he likes in his class and if she doesn't succumb to his pressure of wanting to date her and eventually sleep with her, then her hopes of graduating from that institution is astake. Now this is the wrong use of power which was listed as one of our "reasons why men rape" listed above. Any man that does this to any lady and she eventually bows to his pressure and submits to him, that man is a rapist whether he was caught or not.

2. Secondly, there is also a trend in Nigeria on blackmail. If a male folk finds something which could tarnish the image of a lady, chances are that he may want to trade it back with a nice time together in a hotel room. Many ladies would agree with me that this has happened to several of them before. If you're a man who has blackmailed a lady and because she has no choice, she ends up giving you what you demanded for just so her little secret is not being exposed, you are a rapist.

3. Also married men rape their wives. Although this point has sparked arguments before but it's true. For Everyman that comes to his wife only when he needs it and not minding if she is ready and in the mood or not is not only a rapist, but is selfish. It is not her marrital obligations to be used by you but to seek for consent and mutual understanding before anything is done. Here almost all Nigerian men are guilty as charged.

4. A girl is stranded and a man finds her on his way home. She is innocent and just passing but got caught up along the way with no where to go to. Most Nigerian men have taken advantage of this case scenario to abuse ladies. He asks the lady to go home with him and she would find her way the next morning in the name of helping her but she never gets to sleep that night because it's either he has his way or she is forced to have it the other way. Most men are guilty of this and if you are, then you have raped someone before.

5. Workers and their employees. This is also like a usual thing for a Boss in the office,Superior, Supervisor or any senior colleague to ask for whatever he wants from a new intern or a junior female staff. If he wants her in his bed and she says "NO" then she is fired. Consedering how hard it is to get a well paying job in Nigeria, most women succumb to this threats not because they are weak but because they don't want to be thrown out. That is rape, it didn't happen because she likes you, it happened because it seemed to her she had no choice.

6. A house help is mostly a victim to her employers as the husband might see a young and fresh girl as an opportunity to explore. Due to fear and respect for the "Oga" she would fearfully submit. That is rape.

7. Young men ask girls out and once the girl is rude to them maybe because of the guy's class or social standing which always does not meet the lady's taste, she becomes a target and they attack when she is most vulnerable and lacks defence. That's the most case of rape by touts and the jobless in the society.

8. Your girlfriend visits you and you feel because she hardly has time to visit and today that she is here, you have to make good use of this opportunity. If you force her after telling you she is not ready to do anything, You're a rapist. Sometimes even after telling you she is on her monthly flow, you still press to have your way even under such circumstances.

The list goes on and on. Now I would like to ask, is there still any man who doesn't fall in these categories or sceneries I've just mentioned ? And there is a justification that your not a rapist?

The only man who is not a rapist is the one that passes this test:

Any man, put in the shoes of a rapist can become one. His environment, his brain chemistry, his family background, etc. Which means that anyone theoretically can be a rapist and become a rape victim.

The only man who is not a rapist is the one who is put in the position to rape someone but "DOESN'T". He doesn't not because he can't but because he sees rape as an evil act against God and Against humanity. Against his morals and against the girl he plans to defile. He sees her as his sister who could be a victim someday too. That is the man who is not a rapist. You can't say you are not a rapist because you have not attacked anyone before, that's not true.

Would you not rape if there is a gun in your head and your life is threatened? If you can't pass this test? You're a rapist my friend. I'm sure most of you would do and until you won't, don't tell me anything about not being a rapist, I don't want to hear that.

Parents please do take this seriously;

Parents please pay more attention to these male children. Gone are the days where they would be left alone and not taught anything. All responsibilities and little hoouse chores rest on the shoulders of the female child. The need to live right and be respectful of taught to the female child. The lessons of modesty and Respect for elders is taught to the female child.

Let your male children do domestic house chores it teaches them how to be responsible. Don't allow them to roam about everywhere and only return home to eat. They should be taught what it means to be responsible. It starts from the home. They should learn to value other people and see them as their sisters.

they need to cook, wash clothes and do other things with family members which encourages love for others and let them learn the importance attached to a lady's dignity which they steal when they rape.

Government please take this seriously:

Government should pass bills which moves to take strick measure on those found guilty of this develish act. Only then shall we be free from this menace and attacks on ladies that threatens the peaceful coexistence of the next and future generations to come.

My heart goes to the families of those who have lost their loved ones to this evil act. May you all be consoled as justice would one day catch up with those responsible. May the souls of those whome we've lost rest in peace, Amen.

please like, comment and share and let's educate others to stop the violence.
